‘GrECI Summer School’ (outreach and stakeholders meeting): The teaching of Classics, Languages, and History in European National Curricula – Nicosia 2024

GrECI’s first outreach and stakeholder meeting will take place in Nicosia, on 10-11 June 2024 on the subject of ‘The Teaching of Classics, Languages and History in European National Curricula’. Representatives from a number of European countries will present an overview of the content of their national curriculum of these subjects; through the presentation and juxtaposition of these different perspectives, the meeting will address the extent to which curricula promote a European identity alongside the national identity.

The event is addressed to educators of all levels, relevant policy makers, as well as the interested public, who are invited to participate, consider the information about different curricula and discuss the implications that these have for the formation of national and/or European identity.

Research Meeting II: ‘The Material Heritage of Ancient Greece in Early Modern Europe: New Approaches and Perspectives’ – Athens 2024

This workshop aims to explore early modern Hellenism from the perspective of its material culture in a broad sense. Our scope is not confined to the early modern receptions of the physical traces of ancient Greece such as its artefacts and landscapes. It also includes the ways in which the ancient Greek heritage more generally was incorporated in the material culture of early modern Europe through art, architecture, and in other areas of daily life such as dress and book culture.

‘Networking and Training’ Workshop – Besançon 2023

As part of GrECI’s project WP4, which is dedicated to ECRs, the University of Franche-Comté organised the first “Network and Training” workshop (Besançon, 14-15 December 2023). The workshop considered European networks, career perspectives, funding opportunities for ECRs, as well as the issues of interdisciplinary research and impact in Humanities.

Research Meeting I: ‘Greek Books and Europe’s Common Culture’ – Nicosia 2023

This workshop addressed issues related to: the circulation of Greek books in different geographical (and cultural) areas, the production and dissemination of Greek books in a Latin or vernacular context, the activities of specific printers or publishers and how these relate to printing context or book use, as well as the specific uses of Greek books (as indicated by material or other evidence).

GrECI Kick-off Meeting – Nicosia 2023

The members of the project gathered in Nicosia to present the main content and aims of the project. The meeting focused the four main thematical foci of the project: history of the book, digital heritage studies, language and literature studies, and intellectual history (Reformation studies). It also presented the manner in which the project will be implemented (the Work Packages).
